Firstly, a good security software package. I suggest Kaspersky, which I will switch to once my Norton runs out. Also, get a good anti-spyware program for free off the net. "Spyware Terminator" would be my choice (which I have). The Kaspersky anti-virus and firewall will be always running in the background to catch any intruding viruses, etc, and the Spyware Terminator program is good to run once per week to "clean" things up. A registry cleaner is a good idea too for clearing bits of garbage from your hard disk. Just download "Ccleaner" for this task. Apart from all that, just be careful what some sites tempt you to download, as everyone wants to get their bit (cookies and all) on to your PC!

Yes the smarter Solution is NOD32
For Anti-Spyware go to

www.superantispyware.com and download the Free version. Check for updates before carrying out a scan. Also go to www.filehippo.com and download Ccleaner Free. This utility is used to keep your computer clear of junk files and can also be used to clean remnants of Programmes you have deleted.
The only program I use is Zone Alarm, not Norton or any antivirus software.
normaly having a new computer doesn't get any much hasle... but as soon as you start downloading and installing say games and other software it tends to run slower that regular, especialy when the memory is less.
