I bought a new hp desktop recently and my Norton Internet security needs to be renewed but I'd

securtity through my provider. My question is can I uninstall all the Symantec (norton) security programs without ruining the computer?

Yeah you can uninstall it. I uninstalled mine recently....but wished I hadn't because it's top of the line. But hey whatever ya want to do. It won't ruin your computer though. Not sure why you'd switch. You sure it needs renewed? Maybe updated to newer definitions, updates, etc..? Either way it won't hurt your computer to uninstall it.

Symantects product IMHO is a resource HOG! It also disables a ton of stuff in the operating system and takes over for it. Then there is the cost factor a residual fee every year. (uninstall it now there are like 3 things you have to unistall to [surprised?]) I download tons of stuff from the internet including snag'n on stuff like BitComet and Lime Wire and I have 0% trouble even when a virus is encountered. All I use and have installed for tons of "home" user clients is AVG Free edition. Can be found and downloaded @ http://free.grisoft.com great piece of software and updates itself and all. It will keep your machine vermin free guaranteed. Of course you will get those Symantec / McAfee fans chiming in. (Ford is better! No Chevy is better!) Natch. But trust me the above is all you need as long as you keep your machine updated thruogh Microsoft for critical updates. Hope this helps...Nate
Yes uninstall it...
