Im confused people tell me to shut off my computer every night?spyware
It is not necessary to shut it off completely. Go to Start%26gt;Turn Off Computer%26gt;Standby and it will go into "sleep" mode. By jiggling the mouse or tapping any key it will power up again. It saves a whole lot of time than rebooting every time you want to use it and will not harm your system.
The virus protection only applies to being online and has nothing to do with whether the computer itself is on or off. Above all, don't be afraid of it. It is only a machine.

I leave my computer on 24 hours a day. I run automated maintenance during the night and not having to restart seems to lessen errors involved in the boot process.
If you want to conserve energy, don't shut down, just put in sleep mode which puts your computer in a low power state, but resumes almost immediately when you wiggle your mouse or hit the start button depending on your computer.
As long as it has proper ventilation and it doesn't overheat, you can leave it on for as long as you like. mines been on for like 2 weeks now... i just shut off the monitor at night to save some energy. sometimes it feels like the computer gets a little slower, if that happens just restart. might happen every 4 or 5 days. Just make sure you麓re protected from hackers, virus and all that and you should be just fine.
either way its not a big difference but the people in the business world leave theirs on all the time.
i hardly ever turn mine off. i think turning them on and off will mess it up more than leaving it on.
I never turn them off. It's too hard on the hardware to heat up and cool down. The few cents worth of electricity is not worth the time to rebuild a system.
Turn it off every night. Save that few cents in electricity and spend it somewhere else, not to mention save the life of your computer because it is not having to preform some taste 24/7. Don't be wasteful.
Would you leave four 100watt lights on everyday, 24/7??
I've got computers that power on/off everyday after their scheduled maintenance, with no problems.
The other thing with leaving the computer on is the cooling/dust that can accumulate inside, which affects cooling of the processor, and can lead to intermittent problems.
A complete shutdown is not necessary, hibernation or standby is a good idea.
A reboot of the computer is also a good idea, especially after automatic updates that your computer may do.
