Computer Protection Question.?

I have iolo system mechanic and mcafee security center installed on my computer and i uninstalled norton antivirus long ago and on system mechanic it says "Norton Internet Worm Protection is installed, but may not be active or running"

and after i uninstalled avast antivirus, it said that i didnt have any virus protection.

I thought that McAfee was supposed to take care of that?

Mcafee Security Center does have its own firewall and virus protection but still when i log on aol and system mechanic, they both say that there is no protection found.

Should i just ignore it? Or there some kind of error on my computer?

and since my computer supposedly says that it isnt protected from hackers and identity theives. I changed the setting in McAfee's Firewall to be in stealth, which completely hides my computer's presence in the internet and blocks all inbound connections.

Am i possibly protected then?

Computer Protection Question.?internet security software

I'm not familiar with the inner workings of iolo or McAfee security center, but I can provide you with a couple of pointers.

I'm not sure whether iolo will support monitoring for security products other than its own. The most important thing is to make sure that Mcafee security center tells you that your system is protected. Always make sure that you never run more than on one anti-virus or firewall, because they will clash.

I know AOL provides McAfee VirusScan Plus for free, but that does not mean it will check your PC for Mcafee security center.

Your registry may be damaged and neither iolo nor AOL can find traces of the programs in your Windows registry, so this does not mean that the programs are not installed on your system.

Your system is infected with Adware and will keep on showing popups. You can use one of the following softwares to remove the adware. It will also be better for your system to go to the microsoft website and reinstall IE after you have removed the adware.

http://www.safer-networking.org/

Uber powerful tool which can search and annhilate nasties that make it onto your system. Now with an Immunize section that will help prevent future infections.

Can anyone tell me how to get rid of this stupid pop-up ad on my computer???

The pop-up says something like "Windows has found several critical system errors to fix this problem download Registry Cleaner" from some website (fix32.com, I think). Other than this pop-up there is nothing wrong with my computer. I have Norton internet security, but it won't make this one go away! Also, for those who are wont to ask: Yes, it is a pop-up and not a real warning. The window that it pops up in looks similar to a normal window, but not exactly. Any help would be great. Thank you.

Can anyone tell me how to get rid of this stupid pop-up ad on my computer???internet

Microsoft Windows operating systems (98, ME, XP, 2000, NT) allow anyone on the Internet to generate pop-up messages on your computer screen if your messenger service is active.Even ill-intentioned individuals or companies can generate pop-ups to try to fool you into going into websites to 'phis' your personal information, usually credit card numbers, passwords etc.And some spammers exploit the messenger service to distribute their ads.

The fact that the message asks you to visit a website and download a program makes it clear that it wasn't "windows" that has "found critical system errors".so,you are absolutely right that it is a pop-up message.

As a general safety precaution,DO NOT download nor install anything from pop-ups.Just visiting their websites leaves "tracking cookies" on your machine.

Top five threats to a computer?

What the 'top 5' threats to security data stored in a computer system

Top five threats to a computer?virus protection software

User, user, user, user, user.

Top five threats to a computer?adware

Trojans, windows and my three kids.
1.Spyware

2.Hackers

3.Virus

4.Stupid relatives and friends, who will just parade through your computer in order to take away anything worthwhile that they don't have and most irritatingly, in your absence

5.Yourself, when you are upset, or in a rage
Actually four of them are external. Dust. Power Surges. Electromagnetic fields. Microwaves and then of course, viruses. be well, Jack
First and foremost is the user not 'backing up' their information. Backing up important information should not be backed up the the computer itself but onto removable media and stored away from the location of the computer. I burn Cd's and store them at my brother's house and he does the samething. Then I would guess viruses - malware - trojans and worms etc. The last four can be handled buy software ie. anti-virus software and anti-spyware software.
1. Water.

2. Hammers.

3. Punk kids.

4. Nuclear holocaust.

5. Idiot administrators.

My Parkinson's diseased father keeps screwing up the family computer...?

I need some serious help. My father, who has PD, believes that there are people watching our computer. Because of that, he is constantly screwing with the security measurements. He caused the computer to crash (it's a Vista, not even a year old) in December and it had to be rebuilt.

Now, the internet is screwed up. Links won't work. Drop down boxes don't work. It refuses to automatically redirect to pages.

What is he doing to it? He refuses to listen to the guidance of his children (we are all grown, by the way). He screws it up late at night when no one is asleep. What can I do to try to get him to listen to his family in keeping the computer in ok shape?

Please note I can't edit questions either.

My Parkinson's diseased father keeps screwing up the family computer...?virus protection

A lot of security programs have passwords, so you could make it password protected so he can't change it. You could also give him his own user id on the computer so he can click on it to use the computer, but he has no administrative controls (he's just a user) and then he can't change anything. Then make the main account for yourself with a password that only you and your siblings know it, so he can't change things.

I've been through this with someone with Parkinson's and once they reach a certain point, they aren't going to listen to reasoning as to why they can't do that because they get paranoid. You're going to have to take your own measures to keep him from changing it.

Go to control panel and user accounts. You can manage and create them there, and decide what each user can do.

make it password protected. Thats about the only way I can think of.

Help against computer hackers.?

I just had my computer fixed due to hackers. Installed security measures. It has only been a few days and I've been warned by security they have blocked 23 attempts to access my computer using ports. Does anyone know how they do this and what added measures I can take? Sooner or later these idiots will get through and there goes my computeer again.

Help against computer hackers.?virus removal

Relax.

It's just random port scanning that everyone gets. It's just bots searching randomly for computers with open ports.

But your firewall is blocking them and THAT"S EXACTLY WHAT WE HAVE FIREWALLS FOR!

Your firewall is doing it's job and doing it well. Give it a cookie!

Such activity has even acquired a name, "Internet noise". It is considered "normal".

BTW, 23 blocked attempts in a few days is extremely few. In a single hour, my firewalls will block that many attempts.

So just sit back and enjoy your computer. All is well!

The fact that the attacks were BLOCKED is a good thing. It means your defenses did what they were supposed to. Eventually, if the blocking continues successfully, the hackers will get bored and move on to someone else.

Disabling USB from motherboard, for security reasons.?

I am a Computer Professional, giving hardware, networking and security services in India. Do, to some security requirement, I have to disable all the USB ports from 20 computer of my custoumer. The operating system used is Windows XP.

Friends, I know that the USB ports can be disabled from BIOS, and even from Windows xp's Control Panel.

What my requirement is some Techinical way, by which no one can reinstall or remove a password and reinstall it. I dont even want to remove the USB chip from the motherboard, as it will void the warranty of the motherboard.

If any one is having a better solution kindly Help...!!!

Thank You.

Password-protect the BIOS. Assuming the BIOS is properly protected (i.e., passwords are stored in NVRAM and can't be removed by taking out the coin cell battery) then that's your best shot at disabling them.

Is there an overall better product than Norton for Internet Security and Antivirus protection.?

I use Norton System works and Internet security for all of my computer and internet needs. I am mostly happy with it but I do have issues with it. For one thing, I think it is a huge resource hog on my system. Wanted to hear from you if there is a better overall package.

Is there an overall better product than Norton for Internet Security and Antivirus protection.?virus

Oh yes, absolutely, I hate Norton and Norton isn't as good as you think, it can let a few things slip by. I'll start with Anti-Virus, AVG Home Edition, it's free and it uses far less resources than Norton, get it here, http://free.grisoft.com/ and you'll never have to pay a subscription fee again.

For spyware protection I recommend all of the following:

Adaware SE Personal, http://www.lavasoft.com/

MS AntiSpyware Beta, http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security...

Spybot Search and Destroy, http://www.safer-networking.org/

SpywareBlaster, http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/

For a firewall, first I recommend having a hardware firewall which any router will provide and for a software solution I like the Sygate Personal Firewall, http://www.tucows.com/preview/213160

Use all of that software and your PC will be more secure than it ever was with Norton and it will free up many of your resources as well.

Most sales of Windows machines do not include full licenses of anything but Windows itself. Microsoft Office, for instance sometimes comes with a 30- 60 or 90-day trial version. At the end of that time, you either buy the real thing or stop using it. Norton (Symantec) and McAfee anti-viruses also generally come with a brief free anti-virus definition period.

Most everything else is extra. Beware also that trial versions statuses are sometimes quietly not mentioned by the salesperson or the promotion literature.

Plannig 2 buy a computer : please some help!!?antivirus download

That will depend upon who built the computer. The best thing would be to go to Best Buy, Circuit City or Office Depot and pose your questions to the people there before you make your purchase. Make sure you go with a list because you will forget once you are in the store.
As long as its not a Mac, you have something useful.
Buy a Mac. You can't get a virus and you can get the people at the store to train you when you buy the protection package.
most computers (except dell) come with all programs in them....even the programs you'll probably never use. It is all free, except they sometimes charge to have the store install security software. That will be in total when you purchase the computer. This software will normaly need to be repurchased every year, but your computer automaticaly reminds you like a month a head of time.

Is there any problem when I have Norton Internet security as well as Yahoo?

I suggest you uninstall all security programs, dowload AVG and install it. It is FREE and does everything Norton's, McAfee does - and it is all in the background not in your face like the 2 aforementioned programs. Get it at link below. As a previous person said, never run more than one anti virus program on a PC.

Is there any problem when I have Norton Internet security as well as Yahoo?antivirus downloads

There shouldn't be a problem. However Norton Internet Security is horrible software... albeit, it does its job at blocking access to applications. Hoever, from 90% of the people i've known that has it installed they don't know how to configure it to run properly so the appliction block their normal everyday programs like internet explorer and now their computer doesn't work for them. Ditch Internet Security. Stick with their anti-virus program and windows firewall. works well.
Sometimes, but with the ones you mentioned, there shouldn't be a problem.
Probably not but you can drag down your computer by adding too much overhead. Norton is a pain but should provide all the security you need.
there can be..

Symantects product IMHO is a resource HOG! It also disables a ton of stuff in the operating system and takes over for it. Then there is the cost factor a residual fee every year. (uninstall it now there are like 3 things you have to unistall to [surprised?]) I download tons of stuff from the internet including snag'n on stuff like BitComet and Lime Wire and I have 0% trouble even when a virus is encountered. All I use and have installed for tons of "home" user clients is AVG Free edition. Can be found and downloaded @ http://free.grisoft.com great piece of software and updates itself and all. It will keep your machine vermin free guaranteed. Of course you will get those Symantec / McAfee fans chiming in. (Ford is better! No Chevy is better!) Natch. But trust me the above is all you need as long as you keep your machine updated thruogh Microsoft for critical updates. Hope this helps...Nate

U may have loaded the Trend Micro incorrectly that is why u can't uninstall. If u still have the installation disk or if it is built in the notebook's hard disk, reinstall it then try to uninstall after. If it still doesn't work, go back to the store where u bought it %26 ask them to fix it for you b4 u do something to the computer that might void the warranty.

Trend is one of the best anti-vir programs around so I don't see any reason why it will affect computer performance or function in any way.

You have to reboot from an install disk. A friend of mine had a problem with that, but he couldn't access the iTunes store. Look for the install disk, and call Sony's technical support line on how to reinstall Windows on your VAIO.

EDIT: Make sure you back up your files before doing this! If you don't your files will be lost forever!

Learning Basic Coding, Programming, Security...?agv

A friend of mine and I are pretty good at programming but we decided not to proceed a degree in Computer Science because programming and computer concepts have HORRIBLE pay compared to other professions.

Coding programs is a bad idea for a job. Eventually, your age becomes inversely proportional to your pay.

Maintaining security is actually more based around cryptography than computer science.

If you:

A) Love computers

B) Willing to make a salary less than 100,000... (realistically 30k)

C) Are okay at math

Then sure go ahead and proceed with an education on computers.

Learning Basic Coding, Programming, Security...?antivirus software

Like many areas, your pay is relative to the specific part of coding/computing that you choose. I advise against Windows Software Programming as the pay is terrible, and you'll end up spending most of your life writing programs for accountants...

However, Web Development generally pays around 60K+ (US) per year, and Game development even more.

If you are interested in the area of Game Development, I recommend C++, else if web dev is the thing for you, then you'll never go wrong with PHP =P

Not a good idea to have two antivirus programs. McAfee and Norton are both good. Choose one and use it to its fullest.

Two AV programs will conflict with each other and cause you much aggravation. I found that out the hard way.

McAfee Internet Security Suite and Norton Anti Virus, How to make it work.?ariel

you have to have one or the other, not both, it will cause very bad problems, they will conflict and lock up your computer's operating system
They don't play well together, and removing either of them completely is a challenge...good luck.
Antivirus programs fight each other when running more than one. Just run one of them.

You can use multiple anti-spyware programs though.

Take my advice and save yourself the hassle and go with a MAC computer. Why! well because deepening on what is is you are going to be doing, say for instance, videos, graphic designs, definitely MAC, but if you are just doing office stuff, like word etc, then PC is OK.

Does anyone know if something has happened to Computer Associates?

I have their etrust security suite and lately my computer has not been able to auto update. Furthermore, if I try to go to any of their websites, such as antivirus.cai.com or www.cai.com, I get an error message of "unable to connect to server" or "connection to server timed out". I went to their virus information page and online store, but could not access the webscan nor could I contact any of their support functions. If they are still around, I think I got a real problem.

Since I don't have any trouble accessing any of the sites, it must be the way you have the filters set up. Perhaps your blocking something the sites require.

I have found that if you want a particular site, it is best to ensure that you are accepting cookies for that site, and are not blocking ad's from that site.

You know mine has been showing a lot of errors and disconnects too. And I have Security Suite, my provider told me it might be my filters. I'm watching this question maybe I can learn something

Where do you find the security key or passphrase on a desktop to share?

I have a HP laptop and I want to connect with my cousin's computer. It says I require their "security key or passphrase" and she said ok, so where would I find that on her computer? Where do I look for the passphrase or whatever is it?

if you are connecting your PC to your cousin's wireless network then the passphrase in in the router. And depending on different brand the procedure is different. Pls provide more info.
When they sent the invite for you to remote in they set a password, ask them.
Work on your cousin's computer on the following steps:

If you're using a router:

1. Go to Start %26gt;%26gt; Run. Type cmd.

2. In the black window, type ipconfig then hit enter.

3. get the default gateway number.

4. open internet explorer and type the default gateway numbers and hit on enter

5. you will have your router's page. look for the wireless tab or anything that says "wireless".

6. you should see the key there.

Hi there.

If you can't go to the default gateway numbers, make sure that your internet explorer has no proxy setting.

1. Open Internet Explorer

2. Go to Tools %26gt;%26gt; Internet Options

3. Go to Connections tab

4. Click on LAN Settings

5. Uncheck everything.

6. Try going to the numbers again.

Norton Internet Security 2008 Problem..?

When I wake my computer from Sleep Mode. Norton Internet Security is turned off. What could be the problem?

Norton Internet Security 2008 Problem..?antivirus download

Either someone else turned it off or Norton has become currupted and needs to be repaired. Had a lot of problem with Norton becomeing currupted on the family desktop and now matter how many times I repaired it, a week later the problem would come back. I would finanly end up doing away with Norton and go with one of the free anti-virus programs. Haven't had a problem since.

Norton Internet Security 2008 Problem..?bmw

I will only tell you to drop that norton thing off and go get kaspersky internet security. Besides getting plus protection u'd notice a faster system performance too. Kaspersky is rated the number anti-virus software out there and it has the fastest respond time too in case of an outbreak. So brace yourself and go for kaspersky.
The BEST advice I could give you is to contact Norton technical support. The product is very new and it's probably a very simple matter of a setting in the preferences.

Older versions had a problem with standby / power saving features but I am asumng you are on a laptop? If not, you may wish to turn off the power saving features of monitor if you're on a tower.

If you paid god money for a program from a reliable vendor then you should take advantage of their technical support.

You will only get speculation from asking the question here and you will only get people not knowing telling you to use some other program (which doesn't help you and is probably not as good) or they may tell you you have a virus or some other thing that's disabled it and this is also probably not the case (and if it is, you would want to have it resolved immeidately).

So take my advice and don't take my advice :)

Good luck

hmm, interesting question...looks like some sort of essay homework question?? seeing, as im reasonably knowledgable with computers and IT, i'll try my best.

1.) quite a trifle this question, oh my must say! safety with computer ergonomics, I would assume using my common sense, it would have to do with eye strain, and the spinal/back, as you might have to be seated at a computer for extensive periods of time. So a comfortable seat, (i know this is drifting a tad bit from computers but worth a try!) will be neccessary. A computer keyboard is also very important, as it would have to be comfortable for your arms, and hands for typing. As for the eye strain, a monitor which is suitable and safe enough for the eyes!! god knows!

2. Ohhh what an intriguing question, how I must say! Child pornography and child safety with sex offenders, will inevitably be a priority. Another could be hackers, hacking into top secret networks, such as the US army!! (seen that film Transformers!!) If they hack in, they could potential reveal top goverment militant secrets or even control nuclear weapons of mass destruction! scary stuff hey? apparantly a hacker back in 1998 did manage to hack into their network and was in control of the US missiles.

How do I configure Norton Internet Security ?

I get pop ups because something is changing my browser's security settings back to "low" each time I restart.spyware remover

Sounds like you have spyware infection.

No antivirus or antispyware protection is perfect, not even the expensive ones but a good mixture will help you clean your system and hopefully keep it clean. It is advisable not to run two or more anti virus applications as they may interfere with one another and cause false alerts.

As the biggest of the problems seem to be associated with Spyware, for starters, download, update and run a full scan using the following product:

http://www.superantispyware.com/

SuperAntiSpyware is exceptional and will remove the majority of difficult Trojans and Worms, not just the easy ones.

If possible it is recommended that you load the application in normal mode but run it in Safe Mode. Safe Mode can be started by continually pressing F8 during the boot sequence. If you are badly infected you might need to run SuperAntiSpyware more than once to help clean your system. If the only infections now being shown are in System Restore, once you are completely satisfied that you can boot normally, you can either delete the infected restore points manually, or temporarily turn off System Restore.

Im confused people tell me to shut off my computer every night?

, when someone told me to shut it off every two weeks? I dont know what to do? I do have complete virus protection, its a security suite. i do have a older computer about 2001 is this hard on my computer tol eave on for two weeks?

Im confused people tell me to shut off my computer every night?spyware

It is not necessary to shut it off completely. Go to Start%26gt;Turn Off Computer%26gt;Standby and it will go into "sleep" mode. By jiggling the mouse or tapping any key it will power up again. It saves a whole lot of time than rebooting every time you want to use it and will not harm your system.

The virus protection only applies to being online and has nothing to do with whether the computer itself is on or off. Above all, don't be afraid of it. It is only a machine.

Im confused people tell me to shut off my computer every night?virus scan

I leave my computer on 24 hours a day. I run automated maintenance during the night and not having to restart seems to lessen errors involved in the boot process.

If you want to conserve energy, don't shut down, just put in sleep mode which puts your computer in a low power state, but resumes almost immediately when you wiggle your mouse or hit the start button depending on your computer.
As long as it has proper ventilation and it doesn't overheat, you can leave it on for as long as you like. mines been on for like 2 weeks now... i just shut off the monitor at night to save some energy. sometimes it feels like the computer gets a little slower, if that happens just restart. might happen every 4 or 5 days. Just make sure you麓re protected from hackers, virus and all that and you should be just fine.
either way its not a big difference but the people in the business world leave theirs on all the time.
i hardly ever turn mine off. i think turning them on and off will mess it up more than leaving it on.
I never turn them off. It's too hard on the hardware to heat up and cool down. The few cents worth of electricity is not worth the time to rebuild a system.
Turn it off every night. Save that few cents in electricity and spend it somewhere else, not to mention save the life of your computer because it is not having to preform some taste 24/7. Don't be wasteful.
Would you leave four 100watt lights on everyday, 24/7??

I've got computers that power on/off everyday after their scheduled maintenance, with no problems.

The other thing with leaving the computer on is the cooling/dust that can accumulate inside, which affects cooling of the processor, and can lead to intermittent problems.

A complete shutdown is not necessary, hibernation or standby is a good idea.

A reboot of the computer is also a good idea, especially after automatic updates that your computer may do.

xp service pack 3 is due soon.

Microsoft are still selling xp for another two years (for very basic laptops) and will continue to supply updates.

Service pack 3 will be the last service pack, but xp will still update.

its possible Microsoft are concentrating more on Vista, though i doubt it. If anything, Microsoft are working on the next windows edition most. due in about two years. Known as Windows seven.
No Vista is not putting XP at risk as we are all still getting our updates and XP has had many years of updates so as to make the OS secure, in actual fact it probably works the other way arround as hackers will be finding the exploits in Vista far easier to get around than XP since they still have not secured Vista and are along wat off doing so.
oh well u'll jus have to upgrade like i did

Computer ppl please help?! I recently made updates. Which one/s should I erase cause I think it&#039

too much space. My computer has been freezing up a lot lately around 30 seconds each time and when I type it's a lot slower than usual. I was wondering if it's cause of my last updates. The last 2 were:

MS XML 4.0 SP2 Security Update (KB927978)

Windows Genuine Advantage Notification (KB905474)

Do you think this could be a reason my computer is slow? If so, where do I go to delete the program and which one do you recommend to delete? Note: I updated a security update just a month ago that my computer asked me to so not sure why I was asked to update again. This is a new laptop I baught in Dec. Computer ppl please help?! I recently made updates. Which one/s should I erase cause I think it's taking upsymantic

I'd recommend that you don't remove any Windows updates, as they are important to your computer's security. First, you should run a virus scan, spyware scan, and registry scan. There are many free software applications available that can run these scans. AVG Free is probably the best free virus scanner, while McAfee is a better paid solution. Spybot - Search %26 Destroy is a great spyware scanning application. You can find several registry cleaner applications available on download.com. Feel free to email me at bnrup@yahoo.com if you have any questions.

I like Active Virus Shield. A lot. Active Virus Shield is made by Kaspersky which is one of top-rated anti-virus vendors in the world. Best of all it's free.

In recent tests, the most popular free anti-virus, AVG, was only able to detect about 82% of a very large sample of viruses. On the other hand, Active Virus Shield was able to detect better than 99% in the same test.

Full test chart is here:

Active Virus Shield has excellent virus detection rates and is extremely light on using your computer resources. (6mb ram)

Is Computer Engineering a good field to get in to??

I am a Mechanical Engineering major was thinking to switch over to Computer Engineering from the perspective of a job security? Do you think its a good idea?

Is Computer Engineering a good field to get in to??trojan

Good to get into? I love it. I've been at it for 30 years, and it just keeps getting better. I went back to school for an advanced degree a few years ago, and got an insanely good job as a result.

Job security? Well, no job is secure these days. If you keep your skills up to date, you'll have pretty good career security, though. Jobs come and go, I've been laid off, and some times are tough all around (a friend was out of work for a year).

Make sure you have skills that make you stand out from the crowd. Lots of jobs are going of shore, but not the ones requiring unusual design skills or knowledge. Being good at electromechanical systems could set you apart from the pack.

Much better to finish your Mechanical since you are already in a majoring subject. Then afterward proceed to Computer Engineering as additional courses. Only few units you will take up then you also a graduates of Computer Engineering.

Firstly, a good security software package. I suggest Kaspersky, which I will switch to once my Norton runs out. Also, get a good anti-spyware program for free off the net. "Spyware Terminator" would be my choice (which I have). The Kaspersky anti-virus and firewall will be always running in the background to catch any intruding viruses, etc, and the Spyware Terminator program is good to run once per week to "clean" things up. A registry cleaner is a good idea too for clearing bits of garbage from your hard disk. Just download "Ccleaner" for this task. Apart from all that, just be careful what some sites tempt you to download, as everyone wants to get their bit (cookies and all) on to your PC!

Yes the smarter Solution is NOD32
For Anti-Spyware go to

The only program I use is Zone Alarm, not Norton or any antivirus software.
normaly having a new computer doesn't get any much hasle... but as soon as you start downloading and installing say games and other software it tends to run slower that regular, especialy when the memory is less.

How many programs do you have that run upon startup? This will slow down your computer especially when your not using them at the time. There is no reason for a program to run if your not actively using it. The only programs I let run from start up is my protection programs.

To disable programs from running on startup:

START%26gt;RUN%26gt; type MSCONFIG%26gt;select SELECTIVE STARTUP%26gt; uncheck LOAD STARTUP ITEMS%26gt; select the STARTUP TAB%26gt; uncheck all programs you want to stop from startup.%26gt;click APPLY%26gt;CLOSE. Restart your computer. On restart a window will come up. Check the box for Do not show this again and click ok.

Norton 360 makes my computer slow?virus scan

Yes, this is a normal result of having security software like an Norton or even just an anitvirus on your computer. The software must constantly update it files and signatures. All this information is logged in your computer. The majority of the information is placed in your registry.

When your antivirus performs a scan. It produces a log. This log can be up to 100 megabytes of information each. The registry holds all this info. The addition of the info is not the major problem. Its that the information is placed in many places in your registry. This causes fragmentation of files. Your computer's operating system must search through the massive files in the registry constantly. If the registry is error-filled, fragmented, or bloated with unnecessary and duplicate files, you will have major slowdown. Organize and keep it maintained, the problem will most likely be solved. You can scan to see the condition of your registry and see what resources you can unlock resources.

Simple- It's a security measure that was added a while ago to help prevent trojans from attacking your computer. Just click on the info bar at the top of the screen and click "Install ActiveX Control". It should work fine then. And expect to do this often; it applies to many online activities!

How do I stop the monitor from shuting down during security scan?

I had to scan the computer twice today, because the first time the monitor began turning itself off during the scan, and moving the mouse wouldn't bring it back to the site, or back to the part I can enter my user account.

I wanted to see the progress of the scan, but couldn't, I had no control, it was just my desktop picture and no controls.

When I pressed the off button the site opened so I could see the scan process, but of course it was shutting down then, so I had to do the entire scan again.

I don't use the computer much when it is being scanned by security, it slows it all down. But I want to be able to see the progress when ever I want to.

Go to Control Panel/Power Options and change the setting to "Never" for the "turn off display" option.

What should I do to fix my computer, the screen is black and it's reading an error message?

My computer is reading an error saying that Windows security Center has detected spyware/adware infection and it recommends that I use special antispyware tools to prevent data loss. I don't know what to do. I have Norton so I thought things like this would be prevented and on top of everything else it is now sooooo very slow! What should I do? I don't really trust letting anyone fix on my computer since this all happened a couple of months after I had it fixed for another infection that caused nasty pop ups!

What should I do to fix my computer, the screen is black and it's reading an error message?adware

If your PC used to be faster, or is acting strangely, it's probably infected with malware. Use the link below to learn more about "malware".

Then, you need to install: ONE Anti-virus (I use AVG free), ONE Firewall (Zone Alarm free), and Anti-spyware tools like: Windows Defender, Spybot, Ad-Aware, Spyware Blaster and cCleaner (free, use all 5 regularly).

Google for them, install them and learn how to use them (use Help TAB).

TIP: Last resort, back up (copy to CD / DVD / external hard drive) all personal data and do a Windows "Clean Install", get more info at (www.theeldergeek.com). The apps above can only clean up so much.

you need to ask yourself some questions if you want to go ahead with it.

1. Where are you going to work?

2. Are you going to work alone?

3. How will you advertise yourself (website, ad etc.)

4. What computer servicings will you offer?

It may also be a smart idea to work with other people who know a lot about computers, this way it would be successfull and you would be paid sensibly.

How Can I Un-install Yahoo Messenger from Computer (Windows Xp)?

Hi, I would like to Un-install Yahoo Messenger from my Computer (Running Windows Xp: MCE). But Every time I try Un-installing it from the Control Panel (Add/Remove Programs)....before it reaches 1% of removal...Windows XP restarts by itself. I've tried cleaning my Registry then removing and still no success. I've also tried using MSConfig but no success since its not a Start-up program, my configuration is you must click it in order for it to run. I've thought of Deleting the Folder from C:\Program Files\Yahoo Messenger then cleaning my registry but I'm not sure if that will work. Any Suggestions?

*Current Yahoo Vers: Yahoo! Messenger 9.0.0.907 Beta

* Suggested by Yahoo: http://help.yahoo.com/help/aa/mesg/mesg-... (Does not work, tried upgrading)

* Software used to Clean Registry/Computer (CCleaner)

*There is no Virus (Software: ZoneAlarm Security Suite)

* I'm able to Un-install any other program

Talktalk is renowned for being appalling slow and contended.
Why is my computer slow? I bet you have asked yourself that very question time and time again. And for the most part, you probably just can not figure it out. You might be able to use your System Restore to fix it...

Try using system restore to "roll back" to a time before it got downloaded. Mine is set to make checkpoints once or twice a day, just in case.

PS: You may want to consider some kind of Internet Security software, preferably with Anti-Virus.

Somehow i downloaded something called the Security Toolbar 7.1, I WANT IT DELETED?best antivirus software

uninstall it from your control panel.
Possibly going into the Add and Remove Programs "tool" accessible from the Control Panel will help you remove it.

You should find whatever the name of the toolbar is and then click Change or Remove.

Also, if you have an actual toolbar, why not try right clicking on it and seeing if you can delete or uninstall it that way.
Click on the START button on your taskbar, click ALL PROGRAMS, then select the Security Toolbar with your cursor, which will give you the option of UNINSTALLing it. Click on UNINSTALL and you are free.
go to settings click on add remove programs click that item on and remove it
Start run: msconfig

Is Yahoos Norton security mandatory?

I am perfectaly happy with the CA security that I now have with yahoo. I would rather not have any security than to put Norton back on my computer again. I had constant troubles with Norton. And once you install it, you cannot get rid of it if you want to.

They have suspended all further downloads of the Norton product to try and fix the bugs. I uninstalled the entire AT%26T Yahoo protection suite, but it left a few bits behind. Then I installed One Care and everything now works fine.

I believe its possible to right click the bar, and choose some option to always allow this control to access your computer, or something like that. I use Firefox though and I think you'll like it if you try it. There are no ActiveX controls to worry about.
when it tells you to install ActiveX you should see a yellow bar pop up at the top of your screen. When you click it, it will ask you to install activex and then if you try to run it again it may ask you to run activex. after all is done you should not have a problem.. it all depends on what operating system you are using
