Why does my computer shut down when running a scan?

It was fine until a few days ago when I found my computer off in the morning. After I restarted and ran a scan I found untold amounts of trojans and spyware which were then cleaned from my computer. (I don't know what websites my teenage son has been visiting but whatever they were they have stuffed my computer up!)

Now my hard drive is filled up and although I can scan in safe mode, when not in safe mode, my computer shuts down half way through. I also tried to clean up C drive to get rid of cookies etc and it shut down half way through that too. I am at a loss!

Could it be overheating or have a virus my Norton Internet Security 2007 isn't picking up?

Please help!!! Thanks in advance.

Why does my computer shut down when running a scan?norten

probably has a virus and norton dosen't always pick up the viruses right away try using a different virus program and try to get windows firewall on note: don't use another anti-virus program with the firewall running at the same time. then do a full system scan and see if it's gotten the viruses if not the virus may have left some damage on your computer as to why it's acting strangely i suggest then calling a computer proffessional

try spybot search and destroy its free
Download AVG if you can, it's free and it works. You could also go into programs and start deleting anything you don't recognize or know you need it.

Why and how does virus keep entering in my system that is my Computer?

I scan my PC several times in a day and atleast 6 to 12 threats are always found and i fix it. But in spite of doing that again when i check after 15-20 minutes, i find 3-4 new viruses again.. Can anybody tell me why this is happening? Cos as far as i know, virus or spyware enters when you download and save something, but not just like that. A few weeks back a very bad virus called "Zlob" %26 "VideoActive" had entered my PC. To solve the virus problem i downloaded Trend Micro Internet Security Trial version and fixed the problem of "Zlob" %26 "VideoActive". My computer was free from any problems but after a few days the virus attack has started again, in spite of me not doing anything. Somethimes i don't even browse %26 there are like atleast 6 to 12 viruses in my PC!

Technical-wise, i really don't know much about computers, softwares %26 other programs. It's all too technical for me to understand it. But i really don't understand y this virus problem is happening! pls help me!

Why and how does virus keep entering in my system that is my Computer?norton antivirus 2007

OK, your PC either has a trojan that is downloading more and more malware onto your PC, or you have infections hiding inside your system restore, or other places where they are able to reinfect.

You could also have open ports, which are allowing viruses from other infected computers to enter the open ports (think of it as an open door) thus allowing even more infections.

How do I get past the security alert screen on the newest version of Internet Explorer for Windows V

On my Gmail account, my school email, facebook, etc (websites I KNOW aren't a risk to my computer), a screen comes up saying "There is a problem with this website's security certificate We recommend that you close this webpage and do not continue to this site." Then, the only options are "Click here to close this webpage" and "More information" (which leads to nothing of help). HOW do I get past this and go to the website? Ok, first off...I am pretty good at computers, but I am confused.

I have great anti spy, anti virus, and a great firewall.

Ashampoo Antispyware

I dont really like to use free programs cause they aren't as good as ones you pay for, as a rule, like Zonealarm catches everything that the others catch and miss...so I usually only run ZA daily...the others weekly. They are also up to date. Spyware, Adware, Virus...etc...not the issue.

Norton internet security is the best security suite software.
most virus are spread through IE. IE is not a safe browser. you should use a more secure browser to protect your PC from virus.

i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can block any any popup and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE browser. as you know, most of virus spread throught internet and webpage.

besides, firefox is much smaller than IE, so it run faster than IE.

Pc security threat?

I have DSL and I think I may have a security issue, I use a P2P program called Limewire sometimes to download music but hardly ever and I only have the program on and running when I use it. The problem is I usually keep my PC and dsl connection on most of the time and there have been occasions that when I get on my pc that programs are opened and running but I didn't think much about till yesterday when I got on my computer Limewire was opened up and files where being downloaded the only explaination is that someone has been getting on my pc from a remote location and opening up programs on my PC

I have uninstalled Limewire, set up a firewall, and refressed my ip address what other steps should I take?

Also can you explain how another person is able to use (hack) my pc from a remote location ?

Pc security threat?noton

there can be a possibility that someone had used your connection if you are using a wireless connection at home. and if your limewire is active all the time, a great possibility also that anyone else could had downloaded some of your files like music, movies, documents, etc. as limewire is a free shareware software. but you can check your pc if someone had ever try making some connections to yours. but the best to do is to put off your pc if your not using it. disconnect any connections that is alive. try to be careful always.

Hide my computer and shares on other PC's Network Places?

There was a command I used before in Windows Command Prompt that allows you to disable your computer from advertising itself on the network so when other people view their Network Places they cannot see your computer or shares unless they type in the path manually.

I know you can hide shares by appending a $ to the end of the share name. But I am looking to hide my computer.

This is Windows 2003 but I done this on Windows XP before. I could not find it in security settings in MMC.

did u check on the specs of the game, check out how many memory does it use, and the video card, usally if it on board that doesnt help..and the processor u have..
do you have mazilla fire fox if you do try getting rid of it see if that helps.

Best Security Software???

I am using a free AVG but it so freakin' slow. My computer takes like six minutes to start up completely. I was using Norton Anti-Virus at $60 and that sucks and freezes. Anyone know of a fast and reliable security software?

Best Security Software???security

Avast Anti-Virus. Free, and works extremely well.

Best Security Software???trojan

we Use avast, never had a problem, it's great and it's free!

But i agree, my next computer will be a mac!
if you are using a good firewall, such as Comodo, then you don't always need to be running antivirus software, you only will need to run it when you are scanning. My system setup is AVG, Comodo firewall pro, and AdAware, of which only comodo is constantly running and over 2 years i have yet to get a virus, trojan, tracker, etc...
scanner
I highly recommend getting a mac.
AVG is the only one I would ever recommend to anyone. You probably have a lot of stuff set to start up (background services) with your computer, thus making it to slow. NEVER go with norton! that thing makes your computer sooo frickin slow and it doesn't even work! and it also restricts what you can do 0.o

"BitTorrent DNA, which stands for BitTorrent Delivery Network Accelerator, is a program designed to speed up the viewing of streaming video files, downloading software (with or without the BitTorrent protocol) and playing online video games. It does so by distributing the end users' downloads between each other. In this way, the developers intend that content providers should take less load on their servers so the end users can receive the content more quickly."

Pop Ups and "Security Alerts"?

I keep getting these "security alerts" stating that I have some type of virus trying to get into my computer. But when I click on them, it just takes me to an advertisement for an antivirus product. I also keep getting random ads popping up for antivirus products and such, when I am not even using the internet. I have Norton 360, so I am not worried about getting infected. I just need to know how to get rid of these annoying little things. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Pop Ups and "Security Alerts"?spyware removal

The FIRST thing to do is DISABLE System Restore.

If enabled, this allows malware to hide in the computer and re-install itself.

To disable it, RIGHT-click on "My Computer." Select "Properties" then under the 'System Restore' tab, check 'Turn off system restore' IF not already checked.

The next most helpful things that would help you are to use ONLINE scanners from websites to remove any malware on your PC.

The current best online scanners I prefer are from Kaspersky antivirus and Bitdefender antivirus. Together, these 2 scanners will find ALL the bad stuff on your PC because they have the BEST detection rate.

First, use Kaspersky's. (FYI: ALL these scans require you to agree to a EULA and install an activex control which is needed to perform the scan, so agree to them all.)

One surefire way to clean out a system, if you have a windows XP or windows Vista disk (the Vista disk is labeled "anytime upgrade") is to backup the files you want to save, and then reinstall the OS

To do this:

-Burn all the documents you want to keep to disk

-Download installers for all the programs on your computer you're going to want, and burn them to disk

-Insert the OS disk, and follow the instructions for a brand-new installation of windows

-Follow the instructions until it asks you which drive you want to install on. On this screen, you will have the option of formatting your drives (in the lower right hand corner). Format both your drives before you continue

change the security settings on your Internet explorer browser, from high to medium.
-Try going into IE options, and lower the security.

-Try adding the sites that you go on often to the allow list.\

If these don't work, try lowering the security of your firewall or try simply switching to firefox.

Computer keeps shutting down on me!?

Lately my computer has been shutting down on me multiple times a day. It will randomly give me a warning that says " 'C:X//Windows/system32/services.exe has terminated unexpectedly with status code -1073741819 system shutdown." It then gives me a one minute warning before it shuts off. It would then restart itself and I would log back in until the next time it decided it to shut down. However the last two days after I log back in a new window pops up. This one tells me that "Windows cannot load the locally stored profile. Possible causes could be insufficient security or a corrupt local profile. It then gives me 30 seconds to click ok, after i click ok, another box pops up, this one saying "Windows could not find the local profile and is logging in with a temporary profile" After these last two boxes started popping up, none of my documents are saved on my computer any longer, as well as any of my favorites in my internet browser. Any help is appreciated!!!!

Yahoo email attachments via context menu and Internet Explorer 6 Security Settings?

For at least 2 years now I have not been able to automatically attach a file and email through yahoo (which is my default) using the right-click context menu on a file.. i.e when you right click on a file you have the option to email w/ Yahoo. But when the attachment screen comes up you still have to manually attach the file. My friends computer has the same problem so i know its not just mine. I have searched everywhere and emailed Yahoo, of course with no reply, and have never been able to get a solid answer. It is possible that it is an Internet Explorer security issue which leads me to my 2nd question. Whenver I try to lower the security settings for the Internet below Medium it will not allow it. I get an alert stating the recommened security level for this zone is "Medium". No matter what I do, to include disabling the windwos firewall, it will not let me lower the security level. I've also went through the custom settings option but the security level ALWAYS returns to medium

When the next context menu opens, click Mail Recipient.

A window will open saying something about picture size, click OK.

My computer is infected, now opens to http://thesafetynotes.com?computer

Your computer is infected with a nasty trojan called Zlob. Zlob hijacks your homepage to one of many sites including thesafetynotes.com and then generates warning messages to try and get you to buy fake programs such as SpyCrush, SpyLock, SpyHeal, System Doctor, Dr. Antispy, Security Toolbar and others. Of course it is important to get rid of thesafetynotes.com, but it鈥檚 just as important to also remove the Zlob Trojan that implanted it there. In my experience, a program called SpyNoMore is your best bet for removing the Zlob trojan. By removing this trojan, you will also get rid of thesafetynotes.com and all the nastiness that came with it. Another symptom of Zlob Trojan is that it generates fake warning messages like:

System Alert

Critical System Error

System Performance monitor warning

Security Alert: NetWorm-i.Virus@fp

Security Warning: SpyBot@MXt trojan

Linksys Wireless Connection~ Passcode/Security Code?

I just set up my Linksys wireless broadband router and I'm tryning to get my brother's computer so that it can connect to my wireless network but it keeps asking for a Security Key or Passcode everytime he tries to connect. Anyone know where I can find it?

Yes, click here: http://192.168.1.1

Type admin/admin for the username and password, otherwise you need the password from him. Also look at http://www.routerpasswords.com/ to make sure I gave you the right one.

Should be under wireless security section or here:

I made a mistake here, that link is for the security.

What I ment was:

http://192.168.1.1/WLActiveTab... Report It

Reset the router with the little button on the back of the router, then the password will reset. you can then log in from 192.168.1.1 from Internet explorer with user and pass admin admin and reset the wireless connetion
look at the bottom of the router or wherever the serial number is, if yours is like mine, there is a number within the brackets

i.e. [ ] that was the passcode for mine!

How do I access hotmails security settings?

I need to access my security settings in hotmail since it classified some images that were not harmful...harmful for some reason. And I tried options to access it but couldn't find it. Does anyone know the procedure for adjusting them?

I don't know which version of hotmail you are using but whereever your options button is, click on it. Inside that, there is a list of colors, etc. Down at the very bottom is a "More Options" link. Click on that and you can change your preferences and filters there. Good luck.

welcome to the wonderful world of vista and PC, vista has a major anti virus built into it, due to all the viruses for pc's, as far is i know you can get rid of it, unless you stop you built in windows anti virus. go to your security settings and take it off.

It's the User Account Control. You can take it off by, if you have Admin rights, going to "User Accounts" in Control Panels, and selecting the "User Account Control." From there you can turn it off or on.

Good Luck. It is real annoying. I took it off. You can also modify when it pops-ups, and what it pops up for.

P.S.!! Don't pay attention to the advice above. Don't stop your "built in Anti-Virus." It's not the problem.

that sounds like a virus.. you should go to Best Buy or some place where they can take a look at it and then figure it out.. usually Best Buy can solve the problem.

Computer keeps asking me to save random files..earlier today it told me i had a virus and....??? read on?hp

If you are running Norton Antivirus AND Verizon Online Security, that's a problem. Verizon's security suite is actually McAfee. Having 2 antivirus programs installed and running can cause all sorts of problems. One of which it sounds like you are experiencing with the "disable pop-up blocker" message. Pick one to keep and uninstall the other. If you have a high speed Internet connection, then you should have more than just an antivirus program. If you already have Verizon's full internet security suite, which includes virus protection and a firewall, then I'd keep Verizon's and uninstall Norton.

As far as the random files you are prompted to save, it'd help to know what some of those filenames were, and the exact wording of the message asking you to save the files.
go to symantecs online security analysis and run online security, and an online virus scan. if they find anything you will be instructed as to what to do next. my advice, stay away from some of the places you have been going to avoid this prob in the future

If you don't manage to sort it out then Go to the following link for help . http://service1.symantec.com/support/tsg...

I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. AVG does not slow the system down as much as some other products and Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. They can all be downloaded from the following link. http://www.computeractive.co.uk/ On the home page select downloads and then the appropriate category.I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps.
Norton? I'm sorry! Can you get a refund? McAfee I have never had any problems with yet Norton was a NIGHTMARE. Good luck!!
The solution is easy!

Download and run the Norton Removal Tool from the Norton / Symantic website.

Then re-install.

Computer opened 155 processes in 1 second.?

I have a dell home computer with the basic Vista install, I clicked on the AT%26T internet application and abruptly the computer froze, it said that the internet had opened in 24 different windows. The screen went black and when I it came back on it said something about security and failed logins, then when I opened the task manager and under the processes tab it said there were 155 processes running, at least 110 of those were yahoo internet. I don't know how this could possibly happen seeing as how you can't open the same internet process more than once. What just happened, and why? Virus scans fail to show any problems.

You can't open the same internet process more than once?

You can open as many different internet processes as you system will allow. These processes can be identical, just opened separately.

Although your virus scan didn't find anything, it is a virus, try a different scanner, or update yours.

Computer opened 155 processes in 1 second.?ktm

even though your computer said there was no viruses, i still have a feeling that it may have been a very simple form of one where it is just programmed to open a whole lot of a certain program really fast, causing your system to crash.
Did you by any chance have something hitting the enter key (such as a book). When you clicked on application it had the focus and maybe something was resting on your keyboard enter key, starting many processes.

Internet Explorer Security Pop-up??

I'm having a problem with a Internet Explorer Security Pop-Up which keeps appearing constantly on my screen whenever I have any webpage open or am even trying to open a page.

The pop-up states...

And the program it states is : Adobe Flash Player

But this opens no matter what page I am opening and is constantly popping up - even after I check the box that states:

Do not show me the warning for this program again.

Does anyone know why this is happening and most importantly, how to make it stop?

Problems with security with windows vista?

I tried to make another account, after I made it I could not find that account anywhere on my computer. Now, when I try to run programs, and anything with a Windows Shield icon beside the name, it asks me for the password for that account that I made, I type in the password I set for that account, and it says unknown user account or bad password.

Now, I can't install things or run most of my programs...

Bypass Lightspeed Security?

My school uses Lightspeed has their Security Network (which is known to be the best there is).

(I go to a very small school [60 students])

Of course, all the usuals are blocked (MySpace, Facebook, forums, etc.)

Now, usually you can get around this using various proxies (they block them quickly so there's a new proxy going around almost every day).

My question is, is there a way to change the Network settings so I can avoid the securty all together (proxies sometimes don't allow you to access certain things)? I don't have the computer administrater password.

However, I do have my own personal lap top I bring in on a regular basis.

I've been looking at the Network connection lately, looking for a way to get through the securty, but in vein. Is there a way I can change the Network Settings on my laptop without doing anything that will effect it's performance at home?

Does anyone know anything about Lightspeed they can tell me that may assist me?

You need to use a "proxy server". Try the following:

* Open your browser and go to http://sabc4.com

* In the rectangular field on the page, type in the address you want to go to (like facebook.com

* Click "Begin Browsing"

It will be a little slow, but you should be able to access any site that way.

Computer goes into power save mode during XP install?

I'm adding a new hard drive to an older Dell Dimension 4600. During XP install the computer goes into power save mode at the same exact point each time. The other components of the CPU are original from the factory. The original hard drive crapped out which is why a new one is going in.

First i thought it was the video card but then why would the whole computer go into power save mode and why would it happen at the same exact point of installation. It occurs right before the user info/security key is to be added. It says there is 34 minutes left of installation and thats when it shuts down each and every time.

This security update for IE was included in SP2. I believe it's possible to disable, though I haven't tried.

In IE, go to Tools %26gt; Internet Options %26gt; Advanced tab. Check 'Allow active content to run in files on my computer'. Restart IE.

*RESPONSE TO ADDITIONAL DETAILS:

Fiddling with the settings may not have anything to do with it. As I said, this is a security update that was implemented with SP2. If you have recently ran Windows Update, or have Automatic Updates schedules, then this would be what has changed it. Following the instructions I provided above SHOULD help fix the issue.

I never use Outlook Express, so I can't really help you much there. Still, try changing the settings of the email scanner of AVG, so that it will allow incoming mail.
First, try to reinstall AVG.

Is it okay to uninstall automatic security updates????

I went to my add-remove files this evening, and found a whole long list of security updates added by windows, and am wondering if this is what might be slowing down my computer so much. Things are being added daily, it appears and now I'm wondering if it would hurt anything if I were to uninstall some of these updates? Would it help speed up my computer??? Any advice?

If you don't get the updates, your missing patches that could save your computer from incoming damage from outside the net. The patches will not slow your computer down.

You shouldn't uninstall your security updated, microsoft will just reinstall them again once they notice they're not on their. Your better off cleaning up your desktop put things in File folders having a full desktop will really slow down your system. Also defragment your computer, that in effect is like cleaning up and organizing your closet.. Just go into search and ask for defragment and then follow the step by step instructions it's not hard to do and will really speed up your system. Let me know how it goes for you. and don't worry about losing anything you can all go into restore pick a date and it will be just the way it was.
Yes Its Ok To Uninstall Updates.

ESET Smart Security POPUPS...help!?

anyone else have this probolem?

ESET Smart Security POPUPS...help!?live update

Many times a security suite like ESET Smart Security will change certain things (firewall settings, popup blocker settings, etc.) without warning a user. The developers say to themselves, "We need for this and that to be set a certain way in order for our product to work, so let's just do it and not confuse the user by telling her about it."

I went to the knowledge base but could not find anything that talked about increased number of popups.

http://www.eset.com/support/kb.php

My suggestion is to contact ESET support, explain the problem and let them tell you what needs to be done. (This could also be a compatibility issue if you're using IE7 or Vista.)

Norton Internet Security Center At Risk? Could it have a virus?

I woke up this morning and I noticed that in the taskbar the Norton Internet Security Center 2007 was flashing red. I double clicked it and it said that my subscription need renewal. I look under subscription and I have 277 days left. I hit live update to see if that would work but it said could not update subscription expired.5 minutes later I look a Norton and it says that antivirus and firewall is turned off. It wonnt let me turn it on though. The area in Norton 2007 where you can start a scan, I click it but it wont open up. Instead of being blue text its gray as if something is not registered. Now I am looking at Norton again and now it just shows that the firewall is off. So now only one thing has the big X around it. I am just wondering what could be causing this. Since I could not virus scan on Norton I downloaded AVG and I am scanning my computer to see if that helps at ll. If anyone could help me that would be great

Disable the firewall and see if it makes any difference. So u'll find if the problem is down to the firewall or it lies somewhere else. Please try this and post the result.

try this command in ur command prompt:

if it gives u a blank black window then the port is open on the computer. Please let me know the results.

When I put a new ink cartridge in my printer it has a pop up that says to choose which ink cartridge you installed and if I've used it. But, it won't let me click on it that pop up freezes and so I can't install my ink cartridge- thus I can't print! And I tried to install the printer to my laptop it took FOREVER, said it installed and then when I go to use it it pops up an error message 0x00000007? Any ideas as to what any of this means? Don't be rude!

Why is the Bible banned from my computer at work?

Symantec Security will not allow many pages of the Bible on my work computer...I am trying to look up Deuteronomy 13:6-10 for a Sunday School Lesson tonight...

Why is the Bible banned from my computer at work?microsoft office

Strange that you should choose this particular passage for a sunday school lesson tonight because first of all its not Sunday and secondly this passage is one often used by nay-sayers who are anti-christian. They see this passage as showing God to be unmerciful and a hater...calling for the death of these innocent idolotars who just happen to be stupid enough to believe in false gods and stuff. The problem though and you might want to relay this to your students...what are they 2nd graders?... is that the idolotry and paganism of those days often times led to such fine behavior as sacrificing ones own children, trafficing children in slavery in exchange for sacrificial animals (swine) and trading oneself in temple prostitution as a form of worship. Yeah...it would sorta be like how a parent would feel toward a trusted person who secretly led their child into drug use or pornography or something like that...Jealous God and all that ya know? Wouldn't want someone to parish over the worshipping of a piece of stone or wood...

Deuteronomy 13:6-10

6If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers;

If you're just beginning in the field, all mentioned will arm you with the tools for a nicely broad knowledge base.

Your 1st course should be the Introduction course

2nd - Network fundamentals

The remainder get much more technical - take them in whatever order you'll feel comfortable.

Once you've got past the first 2 courses, you'll get a feel for direction on the next.

Does the Intellimouse with fingerprint scanning help internet security and hackers?

My company is going to send me a computer to use for work here at home. I am going to use wired networking for my PC now and the computer from my company. However, the IT people from my company can control their computer whenever they wan to, and it scares me to know that because that means they may be able to access our PC since they're networked. I also understand that most wired routers nowadays have firewalls in it, but I still want to be very extra careful.

I found out about the Intellimouse with fingerprint scanning and I think it's cool to know that it has to have your fingerprint to be able to login to a certain site. Can anyone share with me how this really works? Lets say I do bank transactions in our PC and I use the fingerprint scanning, will that encrypt my login information from hackers? I have tried to view Microsoft's online tour about this product, but all they explained is about convenience and not security...well, at least, that's how I understood it. :-)

ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite by Checkpoint?

Okay, I'm planning on buying ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite by Checkpoint from my local CompUSA store because I am not feeling completely "safe", I feel as if my computer has some kind of virus, or spyware, anyways I am wondering if this is worth the $49.99, if it is good just say so, if it is not I'd appreciate it if you said why.

Many thanks!

Buy it I'm sure you love it.
It's an exellent choice. The ZoneAlarm Suite is much better than the suites from Norton or McAfee. ZoneAlarm security suite included the Kaspersky Antivirus scanner, ZoneAlarm Pro firewall and the Antispyware scanner developed by Zonelabs. Make sure you read the manual and help files to get the best out of it since it can be confusing.

Nintendo WiFi security problems with linksys?

I have a linksys broadband router which is model WRT54G ver. 6. I was able to connect to Nintendo WFC before, but I used the "secure easy setup" button to connect my other computer to it. Now when I try to use WiFi on my DS and I search for an access point it says, "The access point's security settings are not supported by the Nintendo DS." Does anyone know how I can make it work with my DS?

Nintendo WiFi security problems with linksys?virus protection

My approach would be to disable all the security protection settings in the router web interface which is normally accessed by typing http://192.168.1.1 into your brower's URL address window and logging into the router. Your WRT54G manual tells you the user and password to log in with. You can reset the password and router to it's factory default settings by simply holding the router's reset button (rear panel) in with a toothpick for 10 seconds. This will turn it's security settings off and you should be able to log into the router to see if everything's working again. You can always turn your security back on later. Beware of firewalls like Zone Alarm on your PC that can also deny network connections at times. Turn your firewall off when troubleshooting if necessary.

Update Routers Firmware at www.linksys.com/connect there will come up a list of 3 links to click on you want the 2ed one then download the update the install it and you should be working fine once again.

ZoneAlarm Firewall blocks my internet on "high" security. Help pleaese.?

While using ZoneAlarm Firewall I have to run 'Internet Zone Security' and 'Trused Zone Security' on the Medium setting to allow Firefox to load pages. If I turn 'Internet Zone Security' on HIGH, pages will no longer load. Why does this happen, and how can I run on high and still be able to play online games as well as browse the internet, use torrents, etc. Firefox, WoW, Bitlord, etc, are all allowed by ZoneAlarm so I don't see why it doesn't work.

Also: I have the infamous Ultimate Defender/Cleaner/Fixer Trogan on my computer and I don't know how to get rid of it. I have Adaware '07, which detects it, but when I try to remove it, it just apears again with another scan, so I tried quarentining it to see if that does anything....

Getting rid of this "Security Center" on my home page???

When I was online yesterday I accidentally downloaded this program called "Spylocked" and it has messed up my homepage. The default still shows as yahoo but when it opens up it goes to this address: http://iesafetylist.com/ and the page says "Internet Security". It also added a toolbar called "Security Toolbar 7.1".

Yes I've already uninstalled that program and I ran a virus check and restarted my computer but it's still the same. PLEASE HELP?????

Getting rid of this "Security Center" on my home page???virus scan

You have downloaded a browser hijacker. Antivirus may not clear it as it not a virus, it's sole function is to redirect you to a specific site. You should really run an adware or spyware scanner. A good one is Spybot and lavasoft (both free) - download them from here and carry out an update on both then run them, that should clear your problem.

(Lavasoft) http://www.lavasoft.com/ click on the free download button.

Hope this sorts your problem out.

Sounds very much like your computer is infected with the Zlob Trojan. Zlob Trojan generates 'Critical System Alert' messages and tries to force you into buying rogue antispyware products. To remove these message and the trojan that generates them, download and scan your PC with SpyNoMore, it is the most accurate program in detecting zlob infections.

http://www.spynomore.com/trojan-zlob.htm

By the way it is not free, but then again you should really question any so-called free solution. Isn't that how your computer got infected in the first place?!. The free scan will only check your system and show you the infections. If you choose to remove them, be prepared to pay.

My computer has a flashing icon that brings up pop ups,?anti virus software

run a ful system scan, then let norton anit virus delete it

then it will put the computer back to it,s orginal congifuration.
Run your antivirus and any spyware removal programs you have, if that doesn't get rid of it go to http://noahdfear.geekstogo.com/ and follow the instructions to remove it
Excellent suggestion above, ones that I would have made myself. I would like to add that you should download Mozilla Firefox, it's much better at security...IE7 is just a catch-up copy of Mozilla.
try spybot - this works pretty good - your isp should also have some type of spyware remover

One of the first things to do when you suspect malware is DISABLE System Restore.

If enabled, this allows malware to hide in the computer and re-install itself.

So, to disable it, RIGHT-click on "My Computer." Select "Properties" then under the 'System Restore' tab, check 'Turn off system restore' IF not already checked.

*NOTE: Some scanners ONLY work with IE or may not fully remove malware

Try to remove it completely from Add/Remove Programs.

Some IT security people believe that their organizations should never fail to employ whatever resour

Some IT security people believe that their organizations should never fail to employ whatever resources are necessary to capture and prosecute computer criminals. Do you agree? Why or why not?

Some IT security people believe that their organizations should never fail to employ whatever resources are?windows

Well it really depends on the organization and the management team making these types of decisions. Some IT folks don't see the "business side" of the issue. In order to prosecute someone for hacking your network you have to first admit that your customers data may have been compromised and you have/had weaknesses in your network. Most senior management does not want that type of publicity.

Also you have to take into account the costs of "whatever resources necessary"... if they prosecute someone does the company really get any money back from the work they put into building the evidence? You could be looking at a $100,000+ bill for evidence gathering, research, consulting....

Do I agree... Depends on what senior management decides. If they tell me to do whatever necessary (within legal limits) I will do that.

Just put the kaspersky security onto my system and my daughter's can't get 'grophland' it says "forbidden"????antivirus programs

block websites individually or run a security program where you set the 'blocks'....the 'grophland' is forbidden due to the spelling.....and therefore FORBIDDEN automatically by your computer system as it understands it to be material that deserves to be blocked.

Use the graph..set it to 'medium' ...it should work....

finally, just tell your kids not to visit the 'wrong' websites !!
just turn it off its a waste and anoyance! Plus your daughter wont look at the bad sites its the dudes that do it during there teen years. Plus she can get around these security programs with proxys which arent hard go search one now on google and instantly she can go on any site she wants unless you block every single proxy on the net!

Confused about computer memory?

ok i dont know much about computers can anyone tell me if this is ok or not? i have my new computer about 3 weeks now (windows vista). it has a 500GB HD which currently says i have 366GB out of 455GB free. when buying the computer i chose 3072MB memory. it now says i have 3069.88MB of total physical memory and my available physical memory is 1.39GB. my total Virtual memory is 8.89GB and i have 7.23GB available. my recovery drive is also 5.76GB free out of 9.99GB .... can anyone tell me is that how it should be or what? its only 3 weeks running and i just want to make sure that seems normal? in case this matters i have a good few pictures on it, itunes, mcafee security and a webcam?

Confused about computer memory?adware

Q: it has a 500GB HD which currently says i have 366GB out of 455GB free,...

A: The disk space is referring to the amount of data that you can store in it.

Q: physical memory

A: The RAM module that installed in your computer refers to the amount of data that the computer can support; you can't store your document in it.

Q: Virtual memory

A: The temporary storage which your operating system stores data in it, but you can't store your document in it.

Q: i just want to make sure that seems normal?

A: ...i have 366GB out of 455GB free... Rest assured.

yeh its normal, 500gb is never actually extactly 500gb, memory is used on other system files so yeh your are good to go! and the ram is fine tooo! everything is fine do not worry!
eat cheese it hepls my memory
Your computer is normal. Each and every HD space is slightly different from which it is written. And then the OS installed take some space.
Everything is normal, your system is just using some of the hd space and the memory. To check all you have to do is go to BIOS, Press F2 at start up and you can check to see what is listed there, if everything is normal it will list 500 gb or around there (as some is in use), and it will list all of the memory.

Want to watch my business from my Computer?

I have security cameras at my business. I want to watch it from my computer at home or my laptop when I travel. Any ideas on how to do it?

Thks

Want to watch my business from my Computer?anti virus protection

You will need a way to pipe the video data from your cameras to your internet connection. Most DVR systems camera system will allow you to do this.

You can also get some internet enabled web cameras that do the same job - they connect to the power and your router / internet connection and you can connect to them remotely.

You will also need a static IP for your business internet connection - or have the ability to do DNS routing so you know what URL/ IP address to connect to.

I think the easiest way would be to encorporate a DVR system. You should be able to upgrade the existing camera system you have (most likely) with one.

Be ready to spend a little bit of money :)

Want to watch my business from my Computer?antivirus

It depends on the features of the brand of security camera system you have. Some can do it, some can't.

You'll definitely need at least a broadband internet connection at the facility to stream the video.
